About BAAS

I am delighted to welcome you all in the 50th Anniversary of Bangladesh AOTS Alumni Society (BAAS) under the banner “50 years Celebration of BAAS” with a Slogan “Aspiration to Action, Emerging Bangladesh” BAAS started it’s journey in 1968 with the name Asia Bunka Kaikan Dosakai (ABKD) when the 1st alumni obtained training from Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), an autonomous body of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Government of Japan. This year we are celebrating our 50th anniversary. All 10 visionary leaders who have established rst alumni society in the name of Asia Bunka Kaikan Dosakai (ABKD), Dhaka have left this world excepting Prof. Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain who is our Honorary Advisor today. On behalf of BAAS I sincerely pay my gratitude to all of them and wish and pray to the almighty for the long life of Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain. Their relentless eort and vision have led to growth and prosperity of BAAS today.

Though generally alumni societies gather mostly for friendship and fun, our predecessors at BAAS always aimed to achieve specic objectives. From the very inception the association endeavored to boost private sector performance through Japanese approaches of management and organizational culture. This aim was adopted at the time when the country was heavily public sector dominant. Since 1968 around three thousand participants obtained training from AOTS, Japan. Today you will nd the concept of KAIZEN, 5S’s, 6 sigma etc as familiar tools for quality and productivity improvement among our bottom line employees in Garments and Textiles, Pharmaceuticals, Real Estates, Banks and Service Sectors. BAAS is grateful to AOTS for the parental role it has provided in our establishment and growth mainly by administering scholarships through alumni society was instrumental in the process. In this regard I would like to highlight the role and support of Mr. Nagaaki Yamamoto, Former President of AOTS whom we have declared as the “Friend of Bangladesh”. His concept of partnership has immensely contributed in the growth of BAAS. In his honour we have introduced “Yamamoto Award”. Today BAAS has established its capacity to conduct AOTS sponsored programs locally. Bangladesh Japan Training Institute (BJTI) has emerged as a leading top-quality training provider in the country. BJTI, “The centre for Excellence” is an independent organization and an enterprise of BAAS
